Unibet był jedną z pierwszych firm, która uzyskała w 2010r. licencję na e-gambling na rynku francuskim. Firma dość szybko zorientowała się jednak, że przy obowiązującym podatku od obrotu 8.5% (8.5 percent tax on turnover as opposed to a GGR tax  - amount wagered minus the winnings returned to players) i zakazie oferowania e-kasyna, nie są w stanie zarobić a często nawet zrekompensować wydatki poniesione na operowanie na tym rynku. Unibet wycofało się zatem z rynku, ale teraz robi drugie podejście. Właśnie ogłoszono, że Unibet Group kupił Solfive Group które działa na rynku francuskim i jest operatorem stron e-gamblingu m.in. dla SPS Betting France SAS czy EuroSportBet and EuroSportPoker. Unibet zapłacił za nabycie Solfive 5.6mln euro plus 1.5mln oraz spłacił długi firmy 2.37mln euro. Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström powiedział, że ten ruch jest ryzykowny, ale firma liczy, że francuski ARJEL zmieni wkrótce prawo regulujące e-hazard w tym kraju i wtedy Unibet będzie gotowy zarabiać na tyn rynku. Wiemy już na pewno, że eurosportbet.fr zmieni się w unibet.fr

“Even though we recognise that it will be difficult to generate profits in the short term under the current terms and conditions, we consider that over the medium term France will develop a more sustainable model that will better achieve the goals of player protection, fair competition and reasonable taxation.

With this acquisition Unibet can re-enter the French market at a limited cost to take advantage of the longer-term opportunities”, Henrik Tjärnström continues.
